Artist Charles Washington is taking his existing public art spaces to a new interactive level by developing a virtual tour component for them! Through the use of audio/ visual technology, the artist is developing a storyline for his public art that viewers can either physically tour with a printable interactive map or via our website. A creative arts venue developed by reclaiming an old business building on Historic Almeda Road in 3rd Ward Houston near Midtown by the Harambee Productions division of Harambee Art Gallery. The Pop Up Place was established to create memorable fine art exhibitions, engage visitors in experimental arts activities in addition to providing a lively venue for multi-genre Pop Up events and ongoing regularly scheduled arts activities. Our motivation for this venture is to gain greater exposure for the gallery, expand awareness about green art initiatives, and develop a following for art programs offered by the gallery. In addition, we will provide an arts marketplace with opportunities for artists and art lovers to connect, interact and share positive experiences.

In the past 30-plus years, SPARK has built over 200 community parks throughout Harris County. Founded in 2002, the Lawson Academy (grades 6 – 8) provides single-gender education (boys learn with boys; girls learn with girls) and offers specialized reading and math programs. |
C-STEM Public Art & Community Library
C-STEM Public Art & Community Library: C-STEM Headquarters has been nestled in the heart of the Greater Third Ward community for 18 years. It continues to provide Communication+ STEM+Art education outreach services for minorities, females, and economically challenged students from cradle to career.
This Community Book Box Interactive Public Art has been designed by artist Charles Washington, to enlighten, inspire, and expose community members to the unlimited opportunities that can create unlimited possibilities in their future. The expanded opportunities this public art piece will provide the community include taking a book and/or leaving a book whenever their hearts desire, art and engineering workshops, a reading outdoor sanctuary, and an added beautiful spot in the neighborhood. |
