Fotofest Biennial 2020: African Cosmology

Houston, Texas March 19, 2020 - April 17, 2020
Fotofest Biennial 2020 is landing in Houston, Texas this year with the theme of African Cosmologies. Harambee Art Gallery will be participating in the Citywide call with a full lineup of exhibitions and events to take place from March 8th - April 19th. Through our lineup of curated happenings, we will address the ideas of African cosmology by exploring the question of location, displacement, history, reclaiming, and arrival.

Exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public
GRAND OPENING RECEPTION Thursday, March 19, 6 PM - Houston City Hall, Houston HTV - Join us in the group grand opening highlighting all Harambee Art Gallery’s participating artists to include Dr. Edward Veleau, Andrew “Risky Cereal” Evans, Charles Washington, Missy Burton, Tamirah Collins, Baldwin Lee, Natasha “NaJo” Jones, Ron K. Thomas, Thomas Carter, Fotoshoot Magazine, Young Creative Ambassadors, and Texas Southern University participating artists. Come experience Beyond the Lens & How Did We Get Here? exhibit at Harambee Art Gallery at Houston HTV Studios. Lite bites and beverages will be provided. Exhibit tour available by appointment after the grand opening.
March 20 or 21, 6 PM Hilton Houston Post Oak by the Galleria - Exhibit, and reception
Wednesday, March 25, 6 PM - Texas Southern University Library Learning Center - Come out for an exhibit featuring Texas Southern University’s students and other artists, including local youth. Young photographers will have the opportunity to showcase their work via an open artist call with a focus on Fotoshoot Magazine: Beyond the Lens in collaboration with the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI) also on exhibit is Baldwin Lee with his photo documentary of Life in the South. Reception
Thursday, March 26, 6-8 PM - Houston Community College-Central Campus - Let’s see a film. On exhibit is Andrew 'Risky Cereal' Evans’: Visibly Invisible featuring Edward Valeau and Charles Washington. Enjoy films and artist collections. View an interactive art piece themed: How Did We Get Here? Lite bites and beverages will be provided.
Thursday, April 2, 7 PM- Artist Talk - Texas Southern University Library Learning Center - Join us for an artist talk featuring all exhibiting artists, TSU art influencers, and Harambee Art Gallery curators. We’re engaging student photographers and discussing the process of curating a Fotofest caliber exhibition.
Wednesday, April 8 6-8PM- Panel Discussion - Houston Community College - Join us in a discussion concerning African Cosmologies under the themes of Black representing Black, Where is Africa?, Africa, Here.
Friday, April 17, 2020, 6 PM- Closing Texas Southern University Library Learning Center
